The Tender Coconut Water of Love

Movie : Anuraga Karikkin Vellam
Year : 2016

“Love comes and goes, but even when it goes, it leaves something good in its wake.”
These are the words Raghu says to his son Abhi when his love leaves him. It definitely sounds a little cliche, but it’s a truth that many people fail to realise.

It took Raghu years to realise the importance of affection and fondness in a relationship. He definitely cared for Suma, his wife, but never showed the affection she always wanted from him. What it took to overcome this inertia was the return of Raghu’s lost love in his life. What Raghu needed was someone with whom he can talk freely. And when Nandini, his lost love returns, he gets that missing piece of his life.

Abhi is exactly the same as his father. He doesn’t show affection. On the other hand, Eli is super affectionate. She cares too much about Abhi. This affection and possessiveness always irritated him. And it was his only reason to break up with her. Eli reminds us a little of Dimple from Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, as the name implies, shows us that love is like tender coconut water. It is sweet, but at the same time it is immature too.
