The End of Lifelong Wait

Movie : Aravindante Athithikal
Year : 2018

Waiting for someone is one of the not-so-great emotional experiences. It becomes terrible when that person’s return is unsure. And when that person is so much close to the heart, then this pain is for the lifetime.

Aravindan have been waiting for that day when his mother returns to him. He doesn’t know where she is. While every other person in Aravindan’s life had left their hope, he is still hoping that one day she will return to him. At the same time, he never tried to find her. And when Varada, Aravindan’s friend, tried to find her, Aravindan stops her. As a reason he says,
“താനൊരിക്കൽ പറഞ്ഞില്ലേ നമ്മളെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ വേദനിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് കാത്തിരിപ്പാണെന്ന്.. കാത്തിരിപ്പിനേക്കാൾ വേദന ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത് അതവസാനിക്കുമ്പോഴാ..” (You once said, what hurts us the most is a long wait for something or someone.. What hurts more than a long wait is when that wait comes to an end!!)

There is always that one thing in everyone’s life which helps us to move our lives forward. And that one thing is always the ‘dream’. Aravindan has only one dream, to meet his mother. That hope is what makes him live. What made him stop Varada from searching for his mother is the fear inside him. The fear of rejection. What if his mother refuse to meet him! If that happens, then his only dream will break. His all life will become meaningless. That’s what made him chose to wait over finding his mother!!
